The City of Paramount is excited to announce the Century Greenway Park project, a new recreational space that will expand the City’s network of vibrant green spaces. The design of the project is funded by the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD), this improvement project will transform the nearly one-acre greenway median on Century Boulevard between Merkel Avenue and Wiemer Avenue into a dynamic community amenity that supports healthy active lifestyles.
Recognizing that the median is larger than a typical street median, the City saw an opportunity to reimagine the space for the community. Initially, the City considered using it for parking, but during a community meeting held at Roosevelt Elementary School with 41 residents, neighbors said they preferred a place that would enhance neighborhood aesthetics and reflect their appreciation for green spaces.
In response to this feedback, the City signed an agreement with Studio One Eleven in July 2024 to develop a “mini-park” concept for the site. The project was awarded $45,000 and $161,800 in grant funding for concept design plans, and construction drawings, through RPOSD’s Measure A Technical Assistance Program, which supports design concepts that expand park space in Los Angeles County communities. After RPOSD approved the proposed project, City Staff presented the design to the Paramount City Council on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, to advance the project into the next phase of design and architectural services. The City is exploring additional funding options to build the final project soon.
The City Council approved the proposed “mini-park” concept, which includes additional landscaping, exercise equipment stations, lighting, a small playground, picnic benches and a walking trail with distance markers. The design also incorporates a combination of landscaping, paving, shade structures and bright, vibrant colors to create an inviting environment.
Century Greenway Park will promote community wellness and active, healthy lifestyles, while also highlighting the City’s commitment to beautifying public spaces. For more information about this project and future developments, please contact the Community Services Office at (562) 220-2121.
