Senior Services

The Paramount Senior Center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Consult the monthly senior newsletter for exact times of programming. Our mission is to provide the older adult population (55 years of age and up) in the community with a diverse offering of recreational, educational, social, and human services programs in environments that promote a spirit of dignity and limitless potential for later-life enrichment.

Our goals are to enhance quality of life, nurture talents and skills, foster social interaction, and support independence and self-determination.

Classes

 A variety of classes are available to meet different interests.  Some classes require nominal fees.

Offerings include:

Services

These additional services are offered. The Veteran Peer Access Network helping veterans receive services such as mental health, substance misuse, housing, employment, healthcare, legal services, food, and more. A representative is onsite Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Food Distribution (Los Angeles County Regional Food Bank), third Monday of the month at 1:00 p.m. Distribution is done at the rear of the park.

CSFP: Improving Health and Strengthening Communities

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program focuses on enhancing the health and nutritional status of individuals aged 60 and above. By providing a monthly package of approximately 30 pounds of nutritious, shelf-stable staples, CSFP aims to supplement the diets of participants with essential food items such as milk, meat, beans, grains, and canned fruits and vegetables.

Eligibility and Application Process

To qualify for CSFP, individuals must be 60 years or older and meet income requirements. Eligibility is determined based on household income, which should be at or below 130 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. For instance, the maximum monthly income is $1,580 for one member and $2,137 for two members. Every senior in the household is eligible to receive their own individual food box, ensuring that each person’s needs are met.

Paramount Road Runners

Paramount Road Runners provides education, coaching, and a welcoming, safe space for seniors to move and have FUN. Coached by Road Runners Club of America Certified Coaches and longtime Paramount residents Ken and Pat Winiecki, the mission of Paramount Road Runners is to engage seniors of all backgrounds and abilities to get active and stay healthy. Meetings are from 9–10 a.m. every Tuesday at the Paramount Park Community Center. 

Bingo

Games are held Tuesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. There is a $5 yearly membership fee. The cost for cards range from $2.00-$3.00 per card.  There are cash prizes for this fun game.

Yoga

Yoga is held Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This class is designed for older adults who lack the mobility to get up and down without assistance and cannot participate in traditional yoga class.

Chair Exercise

This class is designed for older adults who lack the mobility to get up and down without assistance and cannot participate in the traditional exercise class. Class will use props such as a ball, rubber tubing, and light weights. Join us on Monday & Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Limit to first 60 participants.

Sewing

This club is an ongoing club designed to allow seniors to share their sewing projects with one another while socializing. This club is an inclusive class where all sewing machine enthusiasts are welcome. Join us Monday’s & Wednesday’s from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Materials are not supplied.  Sewing machines are provided for on-site use. 

Crocheting

Warm up with yarn fun at these drop-in club for all levels! Join us on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. as you learn the basic stitches of crochet. You will learn how to make a chain, single crochet, and double crochet, and how to read instructions.

Loteria

Games are held daily in the afternoon from
1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Folklorico

For active older adults who are looking for a Folklorico class that covers basic steps, cultural costumes and traditions of Mexican dance. We are offering class on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Join us!

Zumba

For active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower intensity. We are offering two class times to pick on Friday from 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Join us!

Tai Chi Exercise

This class involves a series of slow gentle movements and physical postures, a meditative state of mind, and controlled breathing. Join us on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Limit to first 20 participants.

Breathwork Training

This class is designed for older adults to improve their mental and physical well-being . Class will use props such as a yoga mat and towel. Join us on Friday from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Limit to first 20 participants.

Home-Delivered Meals

Home-Delivered Meals of Paramount will bring meals to your home Monday through Friday for a nominal fee if you are home-bound and unable to prepare your own. Volunteer drivers are always needed for this program.  Call Human Services Association at (562) 806-5400, ext. 272 for more information on this program.

Senior Transportation

The Paramount Senior Center provides transportation for residents 60 years and older to attend activities and the nutrition program Monday through Friday. Senior lacking transportation can be picked up from their homes and taken to the Center through a taxi-based program. Community Senior Services (Daily Nutrition Program)

The Paramount Senior Nutrition Program is more than just a meal. It gives seniors the opportunity to enjoy a hot, well-balanced, nutritious meal in the company of other seniors. Stop by any morning, Monday through Friday, and enjoy an interesting speaker, entertainment, or maybe a special party. Lunch is served at 12:00 p.m. for a voluntary $3.00 contribution.
