Arts Scholarship Program

The City of Paramount’s Arts Scholarship Program is designed to provide supplemental financial assistance to families that may not otherwise be able to participate in arts classes because of financial hardship. Eligible residents will be able to apply for a scholarship for each of their children under the age of 18 years old who are interested in participating in an arts class that is City-run or City-sponsored at a City facility.

Scholarships will be awarded on a sliding scale. All information submitted as part of the application will be confidential and will used only to determine the level of scholarship awarded. Qualifying low-income families can receive 60-100 percent off the cost of the monthly class.

Youth Performing Arts & Fitness

by Latinas Art Foundation

The following classes are held at the Paramount Park Community Center, located on 14400 Paramount Blvd. Practice days may vary based on instructor or facility availability.

Folklorico
Tiny Tots Ballet Folklorico (2-6 yrs): Thursdays at 5 P.M.

Students will learn basic ballet folklorico steps movements in a group setting. Class instruction will include counting and colors in both Spanish and English while learning about traditional and contemporary folklorico dances from Latino America. More advanced students will continue to build strength in musicality, cognitive and social skills.

Beginners Ballet Folklorico (7 yrs & over): Thursdays at 6 P.M.

Students will learn basic movements, counting the beats and having fun while learning about traditional and contemporary folklorico dances from Latino America. More advanced students continue building strength and musicality as they learn the fundamental and essentials of ballet folklorico. Students will improve in cognitive skills and have the opportunity to create long lasting friendships. Courses will include learning cultural and traditional backgrounds of the Latino culture through dance and storytelling. Flexibility, technique, and strengthening skills are incorporated into the classes.

Advanced Ballet Folklorico (10 yrs & over): Tuesdays at 6 P.M.

Students will learn advanced techniques, footwork, choreography, musicality, and movements all while having fun and learning about traditional and contemporary folklorico dances from Latino America. Students will continue building strengths in friendships, teamwork and cognitive skills as they learn more complex techniques of ballet folklorico. Courses will include learning cultural and traditional backgrounds of the Latino culture through dance and storytelling. Flexibility, technique and strengthening skills are incorporated into the classes.

Beyond the Spectrum (15 yrs & over): Thursdays at 6 P.M.

This class is created for children and adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. Dancing works to target and improve genetic, structural and muscular weaknesses, masks the task with an enjoyable activity, and increases social and emotional experiences and feelings. Dance is a form of expression which can allow those who have a difficult time expressing themselves verbally.

Latin Dance (7 yrs & over):

Showcases dances that originated in Latin America and Carribean countries. Salsa, bachata, merengue, cha-cha, rumba and samba are the most popular dance styles, however, the classes will also include urban and modern dance incorporated to popular songs. Students are challenged to think on their feet while enjoying an energetic and fast-paced dance class. Our Latin dance classes develop focus, strength, and agility while having fun. Flexibility, technique and strengthening skills are incorporated into the classes.

PEP Learning Center

PEP

PEP Learning Center programs and activities for students will return with the new school year in the fall.

Homework Help
Homework Help is a drop-in program for students in grades K-12 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Seating is limited.

Adult Aerobics Class
The Paramount Education Partnership seeks to provide opportunities aimed at promoting an active lifestyle. Looking to improve your cardiovascular efficiency, muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination and body fat? Then our fitness class is for you!  Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Adult Basic Skills Learning (ESL)
This class is designed for adults whose English is their second language and who need reinforcement in grammar, writing, speaking and reading. The class will be a small group so that all students are guaranteed individual time and the instructor can better meet their needs. The use of educational software, workbooks and educational websites allows students hands-on instructional practice. Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Parent Workshops
The purpose of these workshops is to educate parents on issues such as self-esteem, eating habits, child obesity, drug and substance abuse, communication techniques, women’s health, domestic violence and child abuse. Days and time vary.

Ways you can help!
We are always searching for dedicated individuals to volunteer as tutors in providing assistance in math and reading to students who are performing below grade level.  Interested candidates must have excellent communication skills, enthusiasm, and the ability to work with K-12th-grade students. Volunteers may work as many hours per week as desired but reliability and consistency are a must.

Free Mommy & Me And Daddy Too! Classes

Calling all Mommies, and Daddies too!

Join us in this FREE program as we explore Play, Music, Art & Technology.

Come and spend quality time with your baby, infant or toddler. Children will explore hands-on activities with the help of their parents. Parent participation is required. One child per adult. Free to all Paramount residents and anyone living within the PUSD area.
