Since the start of the year, California has faced no shortage of emergencies and challenges. From fires to storms, communities statewide have been reminded that disasters can strike at any time. September is recognized as National Preparedness Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies, whether at home, at work, or in the community.
At the City of Paramount, preparedness means more than having just a checklist; it also means ensuring that clear and timely information reaches residents and community partners when it matters most. That is why the City is developing a Crisis Communications Plan, which strengthens how information is shared during all types of emergencies.
As the City works to enhance its emergency communications, residents are encouraged to take steps to prepare at home. This National Preparedness Month, be sure to:
- Develop a family emergency plan: Discuss how you’ll receive alerts, identify a meeting location, and assign responsibilities to each family member.
- Consider unique needs: Account for any medical conditions, pets, mobility limitations, or other special requirements that may impact your emergency preparedness
- Practice your plan: Regularly run through emergency scenarios to ensure everyone in your household knows their role and can respond
Preparedness is a shared responsibility, and together, we can help maintain a community that is safe, healthy, and attractive.
