The City of Paramount and the Planning and Building Department want to help residents, contractors, architects, developers, and anyone else interested in understanding how to build an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) or a junior accessory dwelling unit (JADU) in our beautiful city. This webpage walks you through the various steps of how to build an ADU on your property. “Plan-It Paramount” – Pre-Approved Plans
The City of Paramount is proud to announce the launch of the ADU Program – “Plan-It Paramount” offering several pre-approved ADU plans for homeowners in Paramount ranging in size from studios to three-bedroom units. The City is launching this program by offering four plans that have been pre-reviewed, preapproved by the Building and Safety Division resulting in time-saving in both the design and permitting of an ADU. There will be several more plans added to the program in the coming months, which are designed by licensed professionals, providing additional options to residents.
Note: Modifications or customizations to pre-approved ADU plans are not allowed, regardless of how minor the changes are. While some site-specific design work may be required, Plan-It Paramount aims to significantly reduce pre-construction costs for property owners looking to build an ADU. Plans that are designed by the City are available at no cost.

Information for Designers
Design professionals can submit designs for s accessory dwelling units (ADUs) for review and inclusion in the pre-approved standard plan catalog. For more information on how to submit a Pre-Approved plan, reach out to the Planning Division at planning@paramountcity.gov. Please note, projects using a Pre-Approved ADU plans must comply with the City’s ADU Ordinance for standards such as setbacks, building heights, and building separation.
