Landscape Median Project to Enhance City Streetscape

In an exciting initiative to enhance the City’s aesthetics and environment commitments, a new landscape median project is set to beautify Downey Avenue and a section of Rosecrans Avenue in Paramount. This project aligns with the City’s motto to being “safe, healthy and attractive,” reflecting a commitment to improving public spaces through innovative design.

The landscape median project will revamp approximately 1.2 miles of existing medians, from Monroe Street to Wilbarn Street, incorporating drought-tolerant plants and decorative pavers to significantly reduce water usage while promoting environmental awareness. The City plans to create construction documents that adhere to California’s water conservation requirements, ensuring that all landscape features comply with best practices for sustainability.

As part of the project, existing irrigation systems will be upgraded and a select number of trees—primarily those causing issues with power lines or safety concerns—will be removed. However, the City is committed to replanting approximately 20 trees and preserving 60 others, aligning with its Tree City USA designation.

The contract was awarded at the March 25 City Council meeting, reaffirming that this project goes beyond beautification; it underscores Paramount’s desire to foster a safe and appealing urban environment. By investing in this landscaping, the City is paving the way for a greener and more vibrant future for all its residents.
