Ralph C. Dills Park Renovation: Enhancing Community Spaces for All

Ralph C. Dills Park (6500 San Juan St.), a beloved green space in Paramount, is reopening to the community following a series of thoughtful renovations. The City invites residents to a celebration on Saturday, August 9 at 10 a.m., marking the beginning of a new chapter for the park and the neighborhood it serves.

Outdoor spaces like Dills Park play a pivotal role in Paramount’s community life, offering gathering spots for families and friends and hosting many of the City’s events. Known for its nature trail, soccer mini-pitch and more, the park has long been a popular destination. Now, it’s returning better than ever.

As part of the renovation, the City focused on preserving the park’s character while also improving its features. The south field, originally developed using California State grant funds, retains its designation as a “passive” park. This designation restricts organized recreational activities, but encourages less structured events such as picnicking, bird watching and bicycling on paths.

City workers will soon remove temporary boulders that were installed to prevent unauthorized use. In addition, residents and visitors can expect to see:

  • Electric vehicle charging stations
  • Designated fitness areas
  • A new parking area
  • Community gardens, orchards and vegetable patches
  • Upgraded restrooms
  • Bioretention basin
  • ADA-friendly walking paths and trails

By preserving its atmosphere and introducing much-needed facilities, the Dills Park renovation project delivers a place that will continue to support Paramount’s community for years to come. Residents are encouraged to join the celebration on Saturday, August 9 and experience the refreshed space firsthand.
