Summer celebrations may bring fun and family, but they don’t have to include the hazards and harm associated with this dangerous activity. The Public Safety team has long protected our community by enforcing safety measures and implementing prevention plans that discourage the use and sale of illegal fireworks.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), every year fireworks cause:
- 19,500 fires
- Five deaths
- 46 civilian injuries
- $105 million in direct property damage
Illegal fireworks––like bottle rockets, firecrackers, M80s, and anything that explodes or goes into the air––are strictly prohibited within City limits. This prohibition is paramount for safeguarding the lives and property of our community members.
Paramount’s Public Safety Department intensified our enforcement and conducted an educational campaign on social media to ensure everyone knows that Paramount has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to illegal fireworks. This means imposing fines of $2,000 for anyone caught using or possessing illegal fireworks and $5,000 for anyone caught selling them.
By actively enforcing regulations and raising awareness, Paramount aims to create a safer, more enjoyable environment for all residents this summer.
If you witness illegal fireworks activity or have any safety concerns, please report them by calling (562) 220-2002. Together, we can prioritize our safety.
