Legislative Letters

When staff or the City Council receives information on legislative or regional issues that warrant taking a position, staff refers to the Legislative Platform to confirm that the issue aligns with the City’s goals and objectives. Staff then drafts a letter that is reviewed and signed by the Mayor. Copies of the letters are provided to the City Council on a regular basis.

City Council Joins Effort to Stop No Cash Bail System

The City of Paramount has joined 28 other cities in a lawsuit calling for an immediate freeze on all no-cash bail programs in Los Angeles County. Los Angeles County is now operating under a No Cash Bail system which prohibits monetary bail for almost all misdemeanors and some felonies. No Cash Bail severely impacts our public safety resources, limits the availability of individualized release decisions, and lumps career and chronic criminals in with first-time offenders. To be clear, we absolutely desire a more equitable judicial system; but we insist that these changes be examined more thoroughly and include community input before being implemented. To learn more about the lawsuit, visit bit.ly/SmartBailReform.
